Child safety at WIAQ

Every child at Wests Illawarra should feel safe, supported and included, in the pool, on deck and online. The club follows Swimming Australia’s National Integrity Framework and works towards the NSW Child Safe Standards in how we run Club Nights, carnivals, camps and events.

At our club

What child safety looks like day to day

Parents on deck

A parent or guardian stays at the pool for the whole of Club Night, and families help run the night through timekeeping, marshalling and the BBQ.

A known contact

Our Member Protection Information Officer is named on this page and on our Contacts page, so every family knows who to speak to.

Clear rules for everyone

Swimmers, parents, coaches, officials and committee members all follow the same Code of Conduct under the National Integrity Framework.

For swimmers

If something doesn’t feel right

You can always talk to an adult you trust. That could be your parent, your coach, a committee member or Alex, our Member Protection Information Officer. If you would rather talk to someone outside the club, you can call Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800 at any time. It is free and you do not have to give your name.
